Chevalier Magna Sword: Damage Analysis

Chevalier’s 4th Magna weapon is out and people are still confused about why it seems to blow out everything else out of the water just like Tiamat’s Gun did back in October.

Before reading further, knowing how the damage formula works is essential so please read Understanding Damage Mechanics I: Damage Formula if you are unsure about those mechanics.

So let’s take a look at this new toy for light users:

chev-mag-sword-note

Skill 1: Might of Heaven (Mag) – Raises the Attack Power and HP of Light characters (S)
Skill 2: Light ATK UP (S) – Raises the Attack Power of Light characters (S)

What is interesting to note is that the first skill is a Mag Type while the second belongs to the Normal type, to this date it is the first and only weapon featuring both types.

The modifiers of the Might of Heaven (temporary name) skill are equivalent to the Normal (S) skills.

Now, why is having both skills so broken?
Let’s run some calculations. I will apologise for the lack of screenshots but as I haven’t worked on my light team so far, I am lacking.

Base Stats:
– Rank 150 – Raw ATK: 6000

Now draw your own conclusions, especially regarding Light characters tendency to have a natural low HP pool, especially Jeanne.

This post is only meant for people to understand how Chevalier Magna Sword works (and why it is broken).
That’s why those figures are stopping at 3☆ but from this you can run your own simulations for 4☆ weapons and with different weapons setups.

Also it should be noted that even if Zeus looks stronger at first, this is a simple simulation that doesn’t account for buff; using Jeanne’s Encouragement and a Summon ATK UP activation like Lucifer would even out the multipliers since those are counted in the normal multiplier and thus reduce the gap between case 4 and case 5.

Have fun farming Chev’.
